WHAT:            The 15th Annual  San Diego Brazilian Mardi Gras Ball 

 

BENEFIT:   A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit "Afro-Reggae", a non-profit organization that teaches life skills, music and dance to underprivileged children from the Rocina favela of Rio de Janeiro.

 

ENTERTAINMENT: SambaDá an explosive Brazilian Carnaval Band dedicated to make people dance features vocalist Dahndá da Hora from Bahia, Brasil, Remo All-Star Brazilian Batucada Band,  Mindinho and Capoeira Brasil plus "Special Guests"  Chalo Eduardo and Marco Santos.  Rich in beauty and color our Carnaval presents a “Spectacular Samba Show” featuring dancers in glittering costumes adorned in sequins, beads and feathers accompanied by percussionists playing the authentic Batucada rhythms of Rio de Janeiro.

 

"Carnavalescos", those who attend Carnaval will be dancing non-stop to the pulsating rhythms of SAMBA, MARCHA, AXÉ MUSIC, SAMBA-REGGAE, and CARNAVAL ELECTRICO.   Not to be missed are the electrifying Capoeira performance and the Carnaval Parade.  We invite you join!  Mardi Gras Beads are part of the night’s festivities. 

 

DEFINITION: Carnaval is the annual "Celebration of Life" that takes place throughout Brazil.  It is an all-consuming party of fun, feathers, fantasy and outrageous costumes.

San Diego Brazil Carnaval has developed the reputation as being one of the largest and most authentic Carnaval celebrations outside Brazil. It signals the start of San Diego's Carnaval Mardi Gras Celebration that culminates with the Gaslamp Mardi Gras Parade on Fat Tuesday.

SambaDá

Formed in 1997 by native Brazilian Papiba Godinho, SambaDá is an explosive musical group out of Santa Cruz, California that is rapidly inspiring audiences with its unique mixture of Brazilian samba and funky latin dance grooves. At San Diego Brazil Carnaval 2007, SambaDá will be joined by special guests musicians from the legendary Bloco Afro Ilê Aiyê   From the blissful rhythms of samba to hip-hop riffs, from bossa nova ballads to salsa, SambaDá's tunes are playful, vital, and energetic: they make you dance and they make you sing, they are both intimate and exuberant.

SambaDá is dedicated to making people dance! Performing many original and popular songs, the band draws upon various musical styles of Brazil such as; Samba, Bossa Nova, Samba Enredos, Pagode, Samba Reggae, Batucada, and Forró and incorporates, Funk, Salsa Reggae, Jazz, Rock and Hip-Hop into the mix. Pulsating percussion, uplifting vocals, and rich melodies give SambaDá a distinctive and infectious sound.

SambaDá delivers a polished show, which can be tailored for any type of event or function from quiet dinner concerts, corporate parties and weddings, to dance clubs and festivals.
