Le Krewe de Bienville

OPENS  It's February 18th Ball!

In one of the most extraordinary moves for any Carnival Krewe in Mobile,  the Krewe of Bienville is opening it's Annual Carnival Ball to the general public during the 2007 Carnival season.

For those who are not familiar with the Bienville Krewe, it was a non-profit organization chartered in 1961, to promote Mobile Alabama,  as the "Birthplace of Mardi Gras in the United States of America."  They are Mobiles, Alabama's , ONLY civic Mardi Gras society, and travels a great deal, across the country and Canada educating others, that Mobile is the first and the true Mardi Gras in the “New World”.

While the New Orleans CVB, might not like the idea of an entire Krewe dedicated on the premise of  touting the accolades of Mobile, they have nothing but respect and admiration for the Krewe and it's mission.

Mobilian's, as well as any tourists that may be in town are definitely encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to experience an authentic ball in Mobile, during Carnival season. The Organization will have nationally acclaimed band “Sister Hazel” and Mobiles own Peek for entertainment.

Delbert McClinton performed last year as the Krewe's entertainment, and profits from the event went to Katrina Relief right here in Mobile County through the resources of Habitat for Humanity!

Habitat for Humanity has become, one of our sponsors, this year , along with several local retailers. Beinville also sponsored a family in the Bayou after Katrina with money from fund raisers for the purpose of supplying school lunches for the children , some appliances, and toys for the children during Christmas. Another of the organization's many charity events is a annual fishing trip for the children of Saint Mary’s Children’s home and Wilmer Academy. They charter the vessel, " Escape",  from Dauphin Island and take the Kids and Counselors our for a full day of snapper fishing with food, drink, and awards including a perpetual award for “MASTER” Angler, which is kept at their school for the year for bragging rights!

Don't miss this rare opportunity to ball in Mobile!
