Choctaw is one of the oldest krewes in the New Orleans metro area! The only krewe that produces a water parade each season that thrills visitors and natives alike! Congratulations to the Krewe and the Royal couple as they begin their reign for 2008!

Chief Choctaw 2008 is Frank Ruiz, Jr., and Princess 2008 is Jina Hughes Ellingburg.

July 14, 2007     New Orleans, Louisiana ...............( Mardi Gras Digest.Com )  Last night, to a capacity crowd at Timberlane Country Club, the 2008 season got under way in our metro area, as Chief Choctaw 2008 and his lovely Princess were announced and presented.  Chief Choctaw 2008 is Frank Ruiz, Jr., and Princess 2008 is Jina Hughes Ellingburg.   The Chief's Medicine Man is Trey Elfer and Maids to the Chief and Princess are Michelle Lee Baker, Catherine Elizabeth Heindel, Marisa Valerie Galante, Shannon Marie Holt, Leslie Elaine Heindel and Emily Bruce. Other court members will be announced soon.

The majority of the float officers were also in attendance, and they included, Roy Guidry, Ricky Thaiville, Peter Montagnino, Scott Brannon, Troy Loup, Paul Parnell, John Dugas, Shannon Holt and Terry Bladsacker.

With style and grace, our past Chief and Princess, Ernie Elfer, Jr and Bridget Vincent Holt, passed the Choctaw tomahawks to our new Chief and Princess.... without incident!

Proclamations were made to the Chief and Princess from Senator Francis Heitmier and the Louisiana Senate, Councilman Chris Roberts and the Jefferson Parish Council, and in person, Mayor Ronnie Harris from the City of Gretna.

Special presentations, from Choctaw, were made to Francis and Linda Ray, for all of the assistance that they give to Choctaw.  Presentations were also made to Dodie Rackley for her assistance with the Gretna Economic Development Association and to Gretna Economic Development Association, received by Tony Buckley, President of GEDA.

Chief Choctaw 2008 was a Papoose in 1958 when our Chief and Princess was Mr. Herman Fabian and Ms. Thais Sutherland Favrot.  The Chief's stories about his childhood in Choctaw are funny and very memorable for anyone who has been a child involved in Choctaw.

Princess Choctaw 2008 is the Great Great Grandaughter of Chief Choctaw 1949, Mr. Henry Klink.  Henry Klink was also one of the founders of Choctaw.

After the party ended at Timberlane, it appears that a great deal of folks, including the Chief and Princess, wound up at J&K, back in Algiers, where the party continued to the wee hours of the morning.... where another great time was had by all in attendance. It appears by the personalities and vitality that this will be a great year of fun at the krewe of Choctaw activities.

HAIL THE CHIEF & Princess of Choctaw 2008!
