Bacchus Rolls the Dice on pick for Bacchus 2010

        New Orleans, La...... Saturday, Dec 12, 2009 -  Drew Brees announced on Saturday morning on Twitter: "I have just accepted an invitation to be the King of Bacchus for Mardi Gras, Feb. 14, 2010. Hope to see everyone at the parade!"

Our immediate call to Krewe officials did not confirm that Brees will be their monarch, however the Times Picayune ran headlines and sent out an email alert that the news was confirmed. Team officials and NFL officials could not be reached for comment.

With Bacchus scheduled to roll on St. Charles Avenue on Feb. 14 -- one week after Super Bowl XLIV -- Bacchus has chosen to roll the dice, as it were with Drew Brees' because they, and the team do not know if the QB will achieve the top honor this season. However the parade could easily turn into some sort of celebration, even if a victory parade isn't in the offering!

"It's not really a risky move", said Willie Clark, Digest Editor. " Even if they lose one or two from this point forward they still get to celebrate the BEST start in franchise history, at 12-0. They're also get to celebrate only the second NFC championship in franchise history which they have already received, and the team has generated unprecedented buzz for the city, primarily thanks to Brees and a few others!

Born Andrew Christopher Brees on January 15, 1979, in Austin, Texas) he currently serves as the football quarterback for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League. He was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft. He played college football at Purdue.

Brees has been selected to the Pro Bowl three times in his career - with the Chargers in 2004 and the Saints in 2006 and 2008. He was named the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year in 2004 and the Offensive Player of the Year in 2008.

Nicknamed,  "Drew" by his friends the name stuck and he is frequently called by his nickname. This is not the first time Brees has been involved with the krewe of Bacchus. On February 18, 2007, Brees was honored by the Krewe of Bacchus, a New Orleans Mardi Gras parade club,as the 2007 Bacchus Grand Marshal.
