New Orleans Saints Win of the NFC Championship puts Gulf Coast into Sweet Chaos!

This Mardi Gras will be the most Saints focused Carnival season on record as the fans of the New Orleans team throw almost, and I mean almost everything into chaos as the celebration revs up to an entirely new level. The Saints are preparing to enter the Superbowl after winning their all-time best regular season record and the playoffs. A week before the biggest parades roll, on Feb. 16, is the Super Bowl. This is pretty much where normal ends and total chaos begins! Win or Lose, the city has already planned a parade for the team after the super bowl in Miami.

Almost every parade has something of a tribute to the team this season in New Orleans. Super krewes Bacchus, Endymion, Orpheus, all have grand marshals that are linked to the team or plays for the team.

If you are into parading or attending theses processions each season then you are already aware that many parades are rescheduling their roll times.  Times are being pulled back into the earlier hours so as to have fans home in time for the 5:30 Kick-off.

The parades of Centurions, Nemesis, and Alla have moved their parades entirely, while the parades of King Author, and Carrolton have moved the times to noon for author and 11:00 a.m. for Carrolton. Even the The Saints playoff game held last January 16 caused the move of the Pygmalion ball from Saturday to Friday, and delayed the Excalibur ball from 8 to 9 PM, that night.

This would be one thing,  if the game affected just Carnival related events, however, what makes this noteworthy is the sheer scope and range of changes taking place. The game is not only affecting Carnival, it is affecting schools here, as some schools are announcing closing for the following day, jobsites are shutting down, companies are telling their employees to take the next day off.

It's not just education or commerce either, the local newspaper, the Times - Picayune today, (January 28, 2010) wrote that even court cases are being rescheduled as people take time off to go to Miami, Florida to support the team. No one left here for jury duty! The other amazing occurrence is the sheer range of distance that is being affected. You would think this would be a local subject and would only occur mainly in New Orleans, Louisiana, metro area. Well, the change reports are coming in from across the entire gulf coast from Port Author, Texas, to Mobile, Alabama and some changes may even take place as far away as Pensacola, Florida, and well south in the Gasparilla celebration in the Tampa metro region of that state.

There are fans of the Saints spread  far and wide after Katrina, a solid 50,000 plus residents are still displaced all across the southern U.S. gulf coast and they still want to share in the joy, exhilaration, the sheer euphoria that is shared by all Saints fans at this time, "This is our time! We have earned this, and we will take part in it almost to the exclusion of all else, including our beloved, Carnival!
