|
The Crewe of Columbus was founded 82 years ago as the last of Mobile's first wave of Carnival clubs as a non-parading Societies . This club is one of the few societies in Mobile, that chose to keep the earlier spelling of the word "Crewe" as opposed to changing Mobile tradition and adopting the "Krewe" spelling, as coined by the Mystic krewe of Comus in New Orleans. Columbus is named after the famed explorer of English and American fame. The krewe procession has its ships of Columbus, the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria leading the parade. Members are known simply as the ship's crewe. The 19 float society rolls on the "A" route of the Mobile parade system. As Always we will work to bring you more information of these groups as we learn more about them. When we get the news on the group we'll publish it and we will update this page. We will continue to inquire, so we can complete this page.
The organization is currently headquartered in Mobile, Alabama, which is on the east bank of Mobile Bay.
